The Dogs of Pripyat was the recipient of the 2013 Jerry Bock Award.
In the wake of the Chernobyl disaster, citizens of the nearby town of Pripyat were forced to evacuate, leaving behind their homes, their lives, and their pets. Told from the perspective of those abandoned family dogs, The Dogs of Pripyat explores how creatures understand and restructure their lives after losing everything, and how to keep hope alive when it no longer seems possible.
Seldom do we get to see behind the curtain of how a new musical gets made, and in this unique virtual program, we will see how The Dogs of Pripyat came to life, and how songs, lyrics, and book come together from the studios of seasoned Broadway creators and performers. The program will include selections from the musical and the play’s lyricist and composer discussing their inspiration and creative process. Performers include the show’s Lyricist, Jill Abramovitz, who was most recently seen on stage in Broadway’s Beetlejuice, singer-songwriter Rachel Griffin, and Aron Accurso, the current associate music director for Aladdin on Broadway. Join these performers for a one-of-a-kind virtual theater experience on Saturday, April 25 at 5pm.
