Step Afrika! Live in Big Sky
Step Afrika! fuses explosive footwork, vibrant choreography, and contemporary African movement into an unforgettable performance. Drawing from percussive dance styles of historically African American fraternities and sororities, traditional African dances, and modern dance forms, each show becomes a powerful blend of rhythm, storytelling, and community. With interactive elements that include songs, humor, and audience participation, every performance is unique and filled with boundless energy.
A Global Cultural Ambassador
Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is recognized as the world’s foremost authority on the art of stepping. Under Williams’ leadership, the company has transformed stepping into a cultural export, performing in over 60 countries and ranking among the top 10 African American dance companies in the U.S. As Washington, DC’s Cultural Ambassador, Step Afrika! also reaches tens of thousands of people through an annual 50-city tour.
Step Afrika! promotes stepping as a tool for education and cultural exchange, focusing on teamwork, academic achievement, and cross-cultural understanding. Recognized with Mayor’s Arts Awards and inducted into the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) Hall of Fame, the company’s influence extends from the White House, where they headlined events, to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture with the world’s first stepping exhibit.
Witness a performance that brings audiences to their feet, combining agility, technique, and cultural expression in a unique display of percussive dance. Step Afrika! invites everyone to be part of a show that celebrates community and leaves hearts pounding long after the final beat.
